How to Sell Your DVC Points

Selling your DVC points is simpler than you think. No upfront fees, no obligation, and help from the first DVC-only resale broker — since 2002. Here's how.

How to Sell Your DVC Points

Selling your Disney Vacation Club membership is simpler than most owners expect — no upfront fees, no obligation, and no pressure. Whether you’ve been thinking about it for a while or just started exploring, this guide walks you through the process from start to finish in plain English.

DVC by Resale was the very first brokerage created specifically to help DVC Members sell their points. We’ve been doing this since 2002, and the steps below come from more than two decades of helping owners just like you.

Can you sell your DVC points?

Yes. Your DVC contract is real estate you own — a deeded interest — and you’re free to sell it on the resale market, separately from Disney. You don’t sell it back to Disney; instead, a broker like us connects your contract with a buyer who wants to own at your home resort. There’s never a fee to get started, and our listing agreement is non-exclusive — you’re not locked in.

What does it cost to sell your DVC?

This is usually one of the first things sellers want to know, and the answer is straightforward:

  • No upfront fees, ever. You pay nothing to list your contract.
  • Commission at closing only. Our commission (currently 8.5%, among the lowest in the industry) is deducted from the sale proceeds at closing — not before. Returning clients enjoy a small discount as a thank-you for their continued trust.
  • Estoppel fee. Disney Vacation Club charges an estoppel fee for the transfer of ownership, currently $150 per contract.
  • Annual dues. Any outstanding annual dues owed on the contract are settled at closing, so both buyer and seller are covered.
  • Special tax withholdings. Sellers of Aulani contracts should be aware of Hawaii’s HARPTA tax (7.25% of the sale price, withheld at closing). International sellers of any DVC contract are subject to US FIRPTA withholding (15% of the sale price). Your closing company handles both.

That’s it. No hidden charges, no surprise costs.

How the DVC resale process works, step by step

  1. Contact us. Reach out on our Sell Your DVC page or call us toll-free. Tell us a bit about your contract — no obligation, just a conversation.
  2. Get your valuation. We’ll give you an honest assessment of what your contract is worth based on what’s actually selling right now — not automated guesses from listings that haven’t closed.
  3. List your contract. When you’re comfortable with the price, we prepare your listing. If everyone on the deed is available, you can complete and sign your documents online. We verify the points in your account and send the listing to you for final approval before it goes live.
  4. A buyer makes an offer. Your listing appears on our website in real time, so a buyer can act the moment they see it. When a buyer commits at your price, you’ll have a signed contract.
  5. Disney’s Right of First Refusal (ROFR). Disney has the option to step in and buy the contract at the agreed price. For you as the seller, this is a non-event — you receive the price you agreed to either way. (More on ROFR in the FAQ below.)
  6. Closing. A title company handles the paperwork, deed transfer, and funds.
  7. You get paid. At closing, you receive your proceeds. Simple as that.

How long does it take to sell DVC points?

When a contract is priced accurately for today’s market, it can move quickly — some sell within minutes of listing, and the majority sell within 30 days. If you’d rather hold out for the highest possible price, that’s your call; we’ll never pressure you to accept less.

How much is my DVC worth?

Every contract is different, and the honest answer is that only a knowledgeable human can give you an accurate number — not an online calculator. Here’s what actually drives your contract’s value:

  • Home resort. Demand varies by resort, and it’s often the single biggest factor.
  • Annual points and use year. How many points the contract carries and which use year it’s on.
  • Points status. How many points are banked, borrowed, or currently available — this changes what a buyer is willing to pay right now.
  • Contract size. Smaller and larger contracts attract different buyers and different prices per point.
  • The current market. Supply and demand shift constantly, and how quickly you want to sell factors in too.

Be cautious of automated “DVC calculators.” They often pull asking prices from listings that haven’t actually sold, which can give you a misleadingly high number to win your business. There is no public MLS for DVC resales, so the most accurate value comes from someone who tracks what truly closed, and why.

The good news: getting a valuation from us is free and takes just a couple of minutes. No obligation, no pressure — just a straight answer.

Frequently asked questions about selling your DVC

Do I have to sell my DVC back to Disney?
No. The DVC resale market lets you sell your contract to another buyer, independent of Disney. A broker connects you with buyers and handles the process for you.

Do all owners on the deed need to be involved?
Yes. Everyone named on the deed needs to be available to sign, since you’re transferring deeded real estate. If all parties are present, the documents can be signed online.

What is ROFR (Right of First Refusal)?
After you have a buyer, Disney has the right to purchase the contract itself at the agreed-upon price. As the seller, you receive your agreed price whether the buyer or Disney completes the purchase, so it doesn’t cost you anything — it’s simply a normal step in the timeline.

Are there any upfront fees to sell?
No. There are never up-front fees. Commission is only deducted at closing, after your contract sells.

What about annual dues?
Annual dues are settled at closing, so you don’t need to worry about timing. The closing company handles the proration between buyer and seller.

How do I find out what my points are worth?
The most reliable way is to contact us with your resort, point total, use year, and points status. We’ll give you an honest valuation based on what’s actually selling.
